Surviving Week One.

My first week of the new semester is done! It was a long week, I'll admit.  I have early and late classes, and I'm working three times a week (I work as a lab assistant on campus).  And on Sautrdays I volunteer at an animal hospital. So yes, a long week. But I'm excited for the new semester and my new classes:
Organic Chemistry I and Lab
General Parasitology and Lab
Evolution
Honors Seminar: Inhabiting Other Lives

This is my Friday look; I only have one class in the morning so I figured I could wear something a little more fun.  I am loving these new shorts I got from Forever 21. The lace makes them fancy, but the elastic waistband makes them pajama-y. So I guess that makes them fancy pajama shorts. Perfect for an 8:00 AM class.

And... Meet my handsome photographer and lovely boyfriend Luis! He was a good sport and photographed me in the horrid Florida heat. You guys will be hearing a lot more about him.  Possibly seeing more of him too, maybe. He always sticks his tongue out in pictures, which drives me crazy. But I still think he's pretty.
Sincerely, Lex.

Back to School Must-Haves

back to school must-haves

On Monday I go back to the grind, although I know many students already have.  Here are a few things I'll be glad to have with me.
1. A water bottle will be great to help keep me hydrated while I'm at school for a long day and help eliminate the need to buy large quantities of disposable water bottles (and cuts down on waste, too).   This particular one is double walled, which means no "sweating" and getting all of your papers wet, which makes my inner perfectionist cringe,
2. Lord knows how cold those lecture halls get, so a hoodie will help keep me comfortable so I can stay focused. I found this on the clearance rack at Target for about $6, and I thought it was lightweight enough to wear for brief periods in the Florida heat and also easy to carry around.
3. It's amazing how one simple accessory can pull together a whole look.  This necklace adds an edgy touch to pretty much any outfit, and it's easy to just grab and throw on when I'm in a rush. Which I'm sure will be often.
4. One of the keys to having healthy skin is moisturizing, and another is to use a sunscreen to protect from harmful UV rays.  Even when it's cloudy or cold, the sun can still seep through and damage your skin.  I love this product from Neutrogena because it's formula is great for putting on under my make-up, and it delivers both moisture and protection for my face.
5. Walking around campus all day can make your feet ache, so I think these sneakers are the perfect back to school accessory because they're comfy, cute, and just a little bad ass. Seriously, don't be one of "those girls" who strut around in heels at school. Your feet will thank you.
Good luck with the new school year everyone!
Sincerely, Lex.

See Jack.

I've been looking after my boss's one year old cat, which has been an adventure to say the least. Jack enjoys pouncing on my leg while I walk, clawing at invisible creatures, and breaking into his bag of food.  I enjoy the soft sound of his purring as he lies curled up on my chest.
Below: See Jack hide. See Jack sniff. See Jack pose.  See Jack love.
Sincerely, Lex.
